Dr. R. Blake Curd, Board of Directors Chairman

Dr. Curd completed his fellowship training at the Indiana Hand Center, the largest free standing center dedicated to hand/upper extremity care, research and education in the world. Dr. Curd completed his medical education at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Medicine and internship at David Grant United States Air Force Medical Center and a residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center. Dr. Curd is a frequent lecturer and guest speaker on topics covering hand and upper extremity surgery. He has given lectures and performed surgery on five continents. Dr. Curd is an active proponent of physician ownership in healthcare. He is frequently interviewed and asked for comments for various media at the local, regional and national level. Dr. Curd serves as a Director for Physician Hospitals of America and is a Manager for Medical Facilities Corporation USA, a publicly traded company that promotes physician ownership of healthcare and surgical facilities through partnering with physicians. He is politically active and makes 6‐8 trips to Washington D.C. per year, advocating and lobbying for improving healthcare delivery.
Recently, Dr. Curd was accepted to the 2012-2013 Leadership Fellows Program (LFP) for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
Michael Lipomi, President and CEO

Mr. Lipomi has over 30 years of experience in hospital and ambulatory surgery facility management. He started his career with American Medical International at El Cajon Valley Hospital in San Diego, California. Over the past 30 years he has developed and run ambulatory surgery centers and acute care hospitals. Mr. Lipomi was CEO of Stanislaus Surgical Hospital in Modesto, California which he grew from a small surgery center into one of the Nation’s leading specialty hospitals. Mr. Lipomi was President of RMC MedStone where he owned and managed several surgery centers and a surgical hospital before joining Surgical Management Professionals, SMP.
Allison Bolger, Chief Financial Officer

Allison Bolger has over twenty years experience in healthcare financial management. She currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Surgical Management Professionals. She has been instrumental in helping with the financial development and turn-around of physician owned and joint-venture ambulatory surgical centers and surgical hospitals. She began her career in healthcare financial management as a staff auditor in the healthcare division of a regional CPA firm. She was hired as a reimbursement analyst for a large non-for-profit hospital to do reimbursement modeling, price optimization and prepare the Medicare cost report. She then went on to be the CFO for a Critical Access Hospital and after a couple years became the Division Controller for a large healthcare system for its owned, leased and managed hospitals. She has a Bachelor of Science degree with an Accounting Major and an MBA.
Reed Martin, Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Martin has over 25 years of healthcare management experience with a focus for the past 10 years on the operational efficiency and clinical excellence of ambulatory surgery centers and surgical hospitals. Prior to joining SMP as the Chief Operating Officer, he held the positions of Group Vice President and Vice President of Operations for Nueterra Healthcare, a national ASC and hospital management and development company. As Vice President of Operations he had full operational and profitability responsibility for over 25 ASCs and surgical hospitals. He views healthcare opportunities with the financial perspective he developed in the MBA program at Dartmouth Business School and understands the importance of leadership, teamwork and employee development. He has been a speaker at national surgery center conferences and is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame at the University of Rochester where he earned his bachelor’s degree.
Mary Sturm, Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations

Ms. Sturm is responsible for start up, operational, and clinical activities for SMP ASC/GI centers and specialty hospitals. Mary was the Director of Nursing for the Sioux Falls Surgical Center for twenty-one years. She graduated from South Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and received her MBA degree from the University of Sioux Falls. She was instrumental in the start up and clinical management of the Sioux Falls Surgical Center and has since been engaged in the development and/ or management of 13 other centers in South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Vancouver, B.C.
Todd Clark, Director of Information Technology

Todd brings two decades of experience in Information Technology to SMP's management team. He joined the SMP management team in October 2007. Previously Todd served as a Senior Network Engineer with PrairieWave Communications where he designed and maintained the corporate network including multiple data centers and many remote offices. Prior to PrairieWave Communications, Todd spent 16 years at Gateway in various technical support and IT roles, most recently as a Network Engineer.
Rod Olson, Director of Accounting

Rod has over 30 years experience in the accounting field, including 12 years in the health care industry. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, the management of a team of accountants that provide exceptional accounting services in the area of payrolls, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Rod also has the dedication and drive to provide on time analysis and reporting of the financial position of all of our centers.
Rebecca Overton, Director of Revenue Cycle Management

Rebecca has over 15 years of experience in healthcare receivables and overall revenue cycle management. She currently serves as the Director of Revenue Cycle Management for Surgical Management Professionals. Rebecca previously served as Director of A/R & Materials Management for SurgCenter Development, where she provided overall direction in the respective areas for more than 20 multi-specialty ASCs. Prior to SurgCenter Development, she worked as the Business Director for two successful, free-standing, multi-specialty ASCs in South Florida. Rebecca also served as the A/R Coordinator for an ASC in Little Rock, AR and as Billing Manager for a multi-physician pain management practice.
Daren Smith, Director of Clinical Services

Daren Smith is responsible for clinical activities associated with development of SMP sites and providing clinical guidance to SMP ASC/GI centers and specialty hospitals. Daren received his bachelors of science in Nursing from Clarkson College in Omaha, Nebraska. He began his clinical nursing career at Omaha's Methodist Hospital - and quickly moved into a leadership role as the Director of Outpatient Services. Daren has spent the last 16 years developing, opening and leading surgery centers throughout the Midwest including Salina Surgical Hospital in Kansas, Grand Island Surgery Center and Fremont Surgical Center in Nebraska, and Avera Surgery Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Daren has a specific interest and expertise in EMRs and center development.
Keri Talcott, Director of Corporate Communications

Ms. Talcott joins SMP with over 10 years of healthcare management experience. Keri will be in charge of corporate marketing and communications. Most recently she held the position of Interim Executive Director for Physician Hospitals of America (PHA), the national trade association that represents physician owned hospitals. Ms. Talcott was in charge of communicating and coordinating with nearly 300 hospitals, board members, and key stakeholders of the association, as well as, managing the strategic mission of the association in its efforts including legal, lobbying and public relations to overturn a critical section of healthcare reform. Ms. Talcott received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD and her Master of Science in Administrative Studies, with an emphasis in Health Care Administration, also from the University of South Dakota.
